How long will copper gutters stay shiny. As the film gets thicker the color of the copper darkens slowly from orange red to brown black and eventually bluish green. After a month or two they will really start to develop streaking discoloration and browning. You can use hd copper cleaning gel to remove the tarnish.

In many more years they will turn green and black. But overheated copper wires will form a dark gray to black oxidation patina on the exposed wire surfaces similar to what happens to an overheated copper pan on a stove. After the gel melts the tarnish scrub off then neutralize. We ship custom lengths of gutters up to 20 ft. After a year or two they will be a tarnished mostly brown color. The overheating can be caused by excessive current in the wires or a lightning strike and it will usually be accompanied by melted or discolored insulation near wire connections.
